Background & Objectives

Social responsibility is very important for Salesfive. The company has been supporting NGOs in the digitalisation of donation management since the very start to enable them to better and faster advance their visions and help people around the world.

Motivated by the #SalesfiveGoesGreener campaign, initiated by Salesfive’s employees, to avoid waste, emissions and reduce electricity consumption, the company has decided to become carbon neutral.

In order to achieve that, Salesfive partnered with Planetly to create transparency about its own footprint, identify its biggest emission hotspots and to work on effective measures to reduce them over time.

Salesfive's Carbon Footprint

To calculate Salesfive’s carbon footprint, we looked at all relevant activities across the company’s operations. Salesfive’s footprint does not only account for direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by purchased goods and services and other emissions that occur outside the organisation (Scope 3).

Adding up all emissions, Salesfive had a footprint of 500 t CO2e in 2020.

Analysis Results

The majority of Salesfive’s emissions come from purchased products and services the company uses which explains the high amount of scope 3 emissions. The second largest share of the footprint accounts for heating-based emissions across Salesfive’s offices. Emissions also come from Salesfive’s employees when they travel for business, commute to the office or work from home.

Salesfive Puts the Focus on Carbon Reduction

Salesfive has already switched its Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf and Zurich locations to green electricity in order to reduce CO2 emissions from electricity consumption. In all offices, light bulbs have been replaced with more environmentally friendly LEDs. Salesfive also already uses a carbon neutral server provider. 

On top of that, the company installed smart heating and lighting management at some of its locations to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions here as well.

Salesfive will now develop an action plan to sustainably reduce emissions in 2021 and beyond and, where possible, avoid them altogether.

Salesfive Compensates Emissions from 2020

While reduction and avoidance of emissions is key for Salesfive, the company decided to offset unavoidable emissions from 2020 by supporting two high-impact climate projects.

The first project has managed to protect 64,500 hectares of carbon-rich peat swamp forests with a high biodiversity in lowland Borneo from being converted to palm oil plantations. The project activities prevent the release of 3.5 million metric tonnes of CO2e into the atmosphere each year and also supports local communities by providing training in sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity and wildlife habitat. The project contributes to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The second project is part of the Guacamaya Program in Honduras and Nicaragua. The project takes advantage of the regions' abundant hydrological resources by installing small river systems to channel water through turbines to generate electricity. Next to providing clean electricity to remote communities, the project strengthens the labour market in the regions and improves education through the introduction of modern technologies. The project makes a certified contribution to achieving the SDGs 7, 9 and 13.
