As a next important step on their sustainability journey, LOQI reached out to Planetly in order to gain transparency about their carbon footprint. Based on the results of our analysis, LOQI is committed to reduce and avoid emissions wherever possible.

“Say yes to a LOQI that brightens up your day, every day. Say no to one use plastic bags. Our community is making a difference by always carrying a LOQI. It means the World, Mars, and Venus to us.”

LOQI's Carbon Footprint

To calculate LOQI’s carbon footprint, we looked at the corporate activities across the company’s locations in Berlin, New York and the external production site in China.
LOQI’s carbon footprint includes energy-related emissions (scope 1 and 2) as well as emissions generated by service providers and purchased products and services (scope 3).

Analysis Results (2020)

The biggest share of LOQI’s carbon emissions in 2020 were caused by their buildings, in particular the electricity usage in their offices in Berlin and New York as well as in their external production site in China. Emissions are also created by LOQI employees when they are commuting to the office, travelling for work or working from home. LOQI’s carbon footprint of 2020 also includes emissions from external service providers the company uses.

LOQI Puts Sustainability Centre Stage

The company is already taking a variety of measures in order to make their products and processes more environmentally friendly.

LOQI bags are made from recycled and recyclable materials such as GreenCircle recycled certified tafetta material and Tyvek®. The company also uses eco-friendly STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®certified dyes, waterless printing and FSC® certified packaging.

LOQI’s European headquarters in Berlin was designed by studio aisslinger who used recycled and upcycled materials to create both a colourful and sustainable office. In the Berlin office, LOQI has a contract with GreenPeace Energy. The electrical usage is completely from renewable energy sources.

Together with their partners LOQI undertakes steps to combat climate change. LOQI collaborates with logistics partners who offer solutions for carbon neutrality and invest in environmental projects. The company’s leading shipping partners, Kühne-Nagel, DSV, FedEx, and GLS all support initiatives to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals and continuously optimise processes and business solutions in the supply chain to make them more sustainable.

In the future, LOQI will research innovative materials such as mushroom and pineapple leather and banana silk which will take them one more step closer to their sustainability goals.

CLimate action

LOQI Takes Climate Action

LOQI will compensate for unavoidable emissions at the end of every quarter in 2021, starting with 120 t CO2e in Q1 2021. At the end of the year, we will validate LOQI's carbon footprint to make sure this compensation fully covers LOQI's emissions for 2021.

LOQI decided to support high-impact climate projects in India, Rwanda and Peru to offset their emissions. In Peru, LOQI supports a rainforest protection project that works to protect 182,000 hectares of Andean rainforest. In India, the company supports a wind project that feeds additional renewable energy to the electricity grids across India to mitigate energy-related emissions. And in Rwanda, LOQI supports the installation of new and rehabilitation of existing water pumps to provide access to a hygienic and reliable water supply for the rural population.

On top of that, LOQI has decided to support Plastic Bank, an initiative working to stop ocean plastic while reducing poverty. LOQI’s support of the project will enable the collection of 250 tonnes of plastic from the ocean.
