Lendis Becomes a Carbon Neutral Office Equipment Provider With Planetly

Lendis is the allround partner for the entire office management. With Lendis, companies rent the entire office equipment for their employees (e.g. IT equipment and furniture) and manage it digitally via one comprehensive platform.

With its business model, Lendis is already committed to take sustainable action. Now Lendis wants to go one step further: Together with Planetly, Lendis analysed its own carbon footprint and offset its emissions through certified climate action projects.

Lendis is now carbon neutral and enables companies to rent 100% carbon-neutral office equipment. At the same time, Lendis supports projects that drive the expansion of renewable energies and protect our rainforests.

Background & Objectives

Every year, millions of tonnes of office furniture and electronics end up in landfills worldwide. The one-time use and subsequent disposal of office equipment places an immense burden on the environment. Renting products, on the other hand, enables multiple use – the product life cycle is extended and resource efficiency increases.

Sustainability is already an integral part of Lendis’ business model. The company actively contributes to the reduction of bulky waste and electronic waste. For every smartphone rented with Lendis, more than 70 kg of carbon emissions are offset – for every laptop even more than 200 kg.

Lendis now wants to continue to meet its social and environmental responsibilities. In a partnership with Planetly, the company has analysed and fully offset its 2020 carbon emissions.

As Lendis has offset for the energy used in the production and disposal of the rented products and the estimated energy consumption of these products during the rental period, Lendis’ rental equipment is now 100% carbon neutral. At the same time, Lendis is developing sustainable reduction strategies with Planetly.

“With Planetly, we are taking the sustainability aspect of our rental concept to the next level, whilst at the same time fulfilling our social responsibility as a company.”

Lendis' Carbon Footprint

Lendis’ carbon footprint comprises the sum of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere by all aspects of the company’s operations.

The company’s carbon footprint takes into account not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) but also the emissions generated in the value chain by service providers and purchased products and services (Scope 3).

Analysis Results

Lendis’ carbon footprint for 2020 is 1,258 t CO2e. The emissions are mainly caused by the production, use and disposal of the rented products (furniture, electronics, electrical appliances and plants) as well as by inbound and outbound logistics.

Lendis Wants to Reduce Its Carbon Footprint in the Long Term

To reduce its carbon footprint, Lendis has already switched its office operations to green energy. Business travel has largely been replaced by digital meetings.

In the offices, Lendis stopped the use of plastic bottles and introduced a recycling system. Lendis also has a minimal printing policy and only uses recycled printing paper. On top of that, they provide local and seasonal fruit in the offices.

Moving forward, Lendis and Planetly will continue to work on Lendis’ strategies to reduce the carbon footprint even further.

CLimate action

Lendis Has Offset Its Carbon Emissions

Rainforests are gigantic carbon reservoirs and of immense ecological importance. With their climate action portfolio, Lendis wants to contribute to protecting our rainforests and to support the expansion of renewable energies. By supporting climate action projects, Lendis fully offset their carbon emissions from 2020. Apart from environmental benefits, this portfolio enables Lendis to also support social causes, including equal opportunities and diversity.

Lendis supports two energy projects in India and thus the feeding of renewable energy into the power grids. The solar energy project in Rajasthan also makes a positive contribution to educating the local population through workshops on water and energy conservation. Through the wind energy project in Maharashtra, the population in the project region is additionally trained in the operation of modern wind power plants.

As a third project, Lendis supports the REDD+ rainforest project in Cambodia, which protects one of the last remaining unfragmented rainforests in South East Asia. The project also creates jobs in the communities in and around the forest and includes training on sustainable agricultural methods and micro-credits for women.

All projects supported by Lendis meet the highest quality standards: The energy projects in India are registered under the Gold Standard and make a certified contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The REDD+ rainforest project is accredited under Voluntary Carbon (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards.
