Syngenio adds Sustainability to their Symbiosis of Consulting and Development

The climate situation is apparent. Syngenio AG has therefore also made it its goal to make a corresponding contribution towards improvements in its area of operations.

Syngenio can do this both by avoiding and reducing its own CO₂ emissions and by offering green services with “Green Software Design” in its own area of expertise.

Background & Objectives

Syngenio AG has been supporting its customers in the field of banking and payment for over 20 years and is an IT consulting and software development company.

Furthermore, Syngenio supports companies as a partner in achieving their sustainability goals. How does this work? With the help of Green Software Design, i.e. the sustainable, resource-saving and efficient design of software projects.

Syngenio is also aware of its own responsibility and has already started implementing a Green Agenda in 2019 and taken measures to reduce CO2 emissions. In order to continue managing its carbon footprint holistically and continuously in the future, Syngenio is now working with Planetly to jointly contribute to a carbon-neutral business world.

“Syngenio AG and Planetly work hand in hand on the company's climate goals. It's nice to have a partner at our side who has the same spirit in teamwork and the use of tools.”

's Carbon Footprint

To calculate the carbon footprint, we took a closer look at all relevant activities across Syngenio’s operations (incl. Syngenio’s daughter SecAdair).

The scope includes not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by purchased goods and services and other emissions that occur outside the organisation (Scope 3).

The various types of emissions are calculated in CO2 equivalents (short: CO2e) to make them addable and comparable.

Adding up all emissions, Syngenio had a footprint of 481 t CO2e in 2021.

Analysis Results

Syngenio’s biggest emission drivers are procured goods and services, especially purchased IT services and freelancers the company works with.

Emissions from home office (e.g. electricity, heating, etc.) as well as emissions caused by employee commute are comparatively low, with 44 and 48 tonnes of CO2e.

Syngenio Is Committed to Reduce Its Own Environmental Impact

Syngenio AG has been dealing with this issue for several years and has implemented measures regarding green mobility, green offices and awareness in purchasing and event planning.

With the initiative "Green Software Design", Syngenio AG supports other companies in making their software projects more climate-friendly through development and consulting services. With the foundation of the "Green Software Design Community" and its first members, Syngenio aims to promote resource-saving software development with like-minded people and establish standards.

Further optimization opportunities are being leveraged by means of short-, medium- and long-term reduction measures.

We are trying to further optimize our purchasing of goods and services. We will also take an even closer look at event planning and continue to optimize our locations in terms of CO₂ emissions.

We selected a diverse range of initiatives with the intent of making a meaningful difference.
