's Carbon Footprint

To calculate the carbon footprint, we took a closer look at all relevant activities across Taxdoo’s operations. This includes not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions that occur outside the organisation (Scope 3).

The various types of emissions are calculated in CO2 equivalents (short: CO2e) to make them addable and comparable. Adding up all emissions, Taxdoo had a footprint of 1,318.07 t CO2e in 2021.

Outlook

Taxdoo is Committed to Reduce its own Environmental Impact

Taxdoo is fully committed to acting green. The company has a generous remote policy that allows employees to work from anywhere around Germany, thus reducing the commuting employees. Besides running its office with renewable electricity, the company offers vegan and local snacks and drinks in the office to reduce its carbon emissions and manages agreements electronically to minimize paper consumption.

The company is consciously partnering with climate-friendly partners. It also became a member of the Leaders for Climate Action (LFCA) initiative and partnered with Treedom to offer its employees green gifts.

Because Taxdoo believes that its employees are the best ambassadors, the company invests in company-wide events to raise awareness and encourage others to make a difference. They've also created an internal engaging blog, 'Lets' Talk Green,' where employees can post tips, products, and actions on how to act greener.

Taxdoo continues to measure its carbon emissions, and reduce or offset residual emissions in the future. Taxdoo recognises and applauds the progress they've achieved, but they believe it's only the beginning and that there's still a long way to go.

Taxdoo Offsets Emissions from 2021

Offsetting is a relevant stepping-stone to have an immediate impact on unavoidable emissions. Taxdoo therefore decided to offset the company’s carbon footprint from 2021 by supporting three climate projects in Argentina, Sierra Leone, and Indonesia.

With the first project, the Borneo Rainforest REDD+ Project in Indonesia, 64,500 hectares of carbon-rich peat swamp forests with high biodiversity in the lowlands of Borneo are being saved from conversion to palm oil plantations. In addition, local communities are supported by providing training in sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

The second project ensures clean drinking water without contamination by restoring and maintaining boreholes. This will help many communities in Sierra Leone that do not have access to clean drinking water and rely on firewood to sterilise drinking water. This project will reduce dependence on firewood, thereby reducing carbon emissions and the health risks associated with smoke. This project can prevent 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year.

The third project, a solar energy project in Argentina, contributes to clean and green energy by generating an average of 208,000 MWh of energy per year using solar panels. The project also creates jobs in the energy sector. By not relying on fossil fuels for energy production, 84,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide are kept out of the atmosphere every year.
